Sound Off: Kansas State University played host to the Big 12 Outdoor track meet last week in Manhattan. When is the last time KU hosted the event?
KU has never hosted a Big 12 Outdoor, last holding the conference meet on campus during 1994 when the Jayhawks were a member of the Big Eight. KU has not applied to host the meet. KU officials indicated that was because the track is not the correct circumference for league standards. KU’s track is a 440-yard, not a 400-meter, track. Missouri, for the record, hosted the Big 12 Outdoor in 1998, 2000, 2002 and 2010. Kansas State hosted this year and in 2005.

All the more reason to tear out the track and lower the football field.
Track and Field deserves its own facilities.

Sad situation; remember when the Jayhawks were coached by Bill Easton, then Bob Timmons! KU was a perennial NCAA top-rung program back in the 50's and 60's. Oerter, Nieder, Santee, Ryun, Salb and many more! The program was host to the major three part relays, Texas Relays, two weeks later KU Relays, then 2 weeks later, Drake Relays. KU's slide was due to several issues: (1) de-empahasis at KU with regard to Track and Field, (2) dominance by Nebraska at KU's expense, (3) poor and indequate facilities at KU, (4) lack of top-flight coaching staff, (5) trend for quality athletes to tern "pro" , seek sponsors and attraction to the Olympic Program , (6) Title 9 (IX) issues!

Oh, I forgot, loss of visibility when KU went away from "hot pink" and blue to traditional KU colors! Even Wilt looked good in the old colors! Bah humbug!

Wilt could pull of the hot pink thing...most men can't.

Most athletes can, which is whom we are talking about. Most posters can't, which probably includes you and me.
