Sound Off

Sound Off: When will the city begin to pick up yard waste for recycling this year?

The city’s curbside yard trimmings collection began Monday. City’s crews will make weekly pickups on Mondays through mid-December, except on holidays. Materials should be set out by 6 a.m. in a can, city cart or compostable paper bag. Plastic bags are not allowed. Yard trimmings, grass clippings, leaves and small brush and garden debris are taken to the City’s Wood Recycling and Compost Facility, instead of being sent to the landfill.

Is it okay to put weeds in the yard trimmings?

Here's a question: when will these "Sound Off" entries be viewable on the LJWorld's mobile site? They do not load or work at all on mobile browsers.

Never really understood why so many people insist on bagging their grass/mower clippings.

I generally bag the first few mows, when I'll be pick up a lot of extra debris like leaves and twigs that have accumulated over the winter. Later on I'll just mulch it.

If gardening these clippings make great mulch or compost. The city makes piles of compost then sells it and/or applies the compost to taxpayer owned landscape. Same with wood chips.

Thanks to all who donate.

Or one could power mulch the clippings and leave it lay.

i assume this will be the last year for weekly pick up of yard waste when the city turns it all over to deffenbaugh, and we have multiple containters, no one will want yard waste i bet you have to drop it for a fee at the city lot
