Sound Off: Is it permissible to own a pool — either above ground or in ground — in the Old West Lawrence neighborhood?
Megan Gilliland, the city’s communications manager, said that the city code doesn’t prevent pools in any particular neighborhood, as long as the landowner gets a city building permit and follows city regulations on setbacks and fencing. Getting a pool permit for a house in Old West Lawrence does require a historic resources review, however, and there may be a restrictive covenant in the neighborhood’s code. If so, she said, a dispute would be a civil matter.

Say what? About Hugh Carter's desire to bring in rich, retired folk? Surely no one expects them to do without their lap pool.....not even Old West Lawrence.......

Is. mr carter going to partner with old west Lawrence and hand out flyers about social behavior? Those pool parties amongst the rich can get rowdy.

The sad part is that this could have been set off by a Mrs. Kravitz-like neighbor who noticed a little kid's plastic pool in the front yard.

Or a bigger pool maybe that belongs to "tenants" and the neighbors do not like it. Either way, I never knew that anyone needed to get a permit for an above ground pool as there are many around town.
I know someone who would like to sell a house with one and a pool table as well with the house. That would make a mighty fine home for 3 unrelated to party at.
About OWL, imagine the hassle of the HRC bitching about the style of fencing for the pool and the landscaping. Who in their right mind would even want a pool since the weather is only good for a couple of months. The pool would need to be heated.
A better question of the city is: Is it legal to put a plastic pool on a roof or in the public right of way?
