Sound Off: County Road 5 north of Tonganoxie has been closed for about a year. When it will reopen?
The road northeast of Tonganoxie is scheduled to re-open in May, Leavenworth County public works director Mike Spickelmier said. It’s been closed since May 2011, when the county began work on replacing two bridges over Stranger Creek, both more than 70 years old. The county’s contractor has stopped work on the project for the winter, but it will resume in the spring when there’s no risk of freezing temperatures, which can damage newly poured concrete, Spickelmier said.
