Sound Off: Is the plan to include a canoe- and kayak-accessible area near the new Bowersock plant on the north side of the Kansas River still being considered?

“We will put it in,” Sarah Hill-Nelson, owner and operator of Bowersock Mills and Power Co. Hill-Nelson said the installation of the canoe- and kayak-accessible area and a fishing deck will require some time delay due to a safety study required by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. The anticipated finish date is between December 2013 and March 2014.

This is such a terrific idea. Allowing motorless boats like kayaks and canoes has worked in similar locations around the U.S. Go for it! And tell the people of Lawrence how we can help support this wonderful effort.

Will there be a safety person there in case of a person having a reaction to medication?

On the northside? Exactly where would you put it? Are they talking drive up accessability or do they park on the street and carry them down?

Fantastic use of the river. Glad this is being done. Now we just need KDHE and EPA to enforce the clean water act to make it safe. Perhaps some lifeguards too.
