Sound Off

Sound Off: Who is responsible for repairs to the gutter between a driveway and the street? Not the curb on either side of the driveway but the portion of the gutter that the vehicles cross to get into the driveway — in my case, the crater. The city website has forms to report gutters and potholes but neither seem specific to this situation.

Megan Gilliland, the city’s communications manager, provided this information: Typically the city is responsible for curbs including the section in front of a driveway. However, if the driveway was not installed to city specifications and does not have an isolated curb section, it would become the responsibility of the property owner. Contact the Street Division, 832-3031, so crews can review your situation.

We can view the Italian Roman ruins and see less concrete erosion. The city leaders should really put some flesh to the fire regarding the poor paving a cement works in this town. uuummmmmmm RD Johnson what you say about that?

We just got bags of river rock and filled the void where the asphalt has eroded away in front of our driveway. It works great. We figured the city won't do anything about it anyway. They can't even seem to keep up on the roundabouts they've installed that are crumbling. I'm not going to hold my breath that they will fix this.

Have the city specs changed over time? If the specs change can the city now claim it is the owners responsibilty even if it was built properly at the time? If they werent built properly at the time (whole subdivision) did the city do anything about it then?

If you have a sidewalk, think before you call the city, you might get more (expense) than you bargained for. If you don't, you can bet the city will say it's your problem.
