Sound Off: Will Douglas County have an old tire drop-off soon?

Douglas County has no plans for a waste tire collection event, according to Keith Browning, county public works director. Browning said the Kansas Department of Health and Environment used to have an amnesty waste tire collection event program with funding available to cover the county’s cost of handling, hauling and processing waste tires. But KDHE no longer has that funding available, and there are no county funds budgeted for such an event. Most tire retailers will accept waste tires, Browning said, adding he recommends calling tire retailers to confirm they accept waste tires and to obtain a quote on a disposal fee.

Doesn't the city of Lawrence pick up four tires once a year?
