Sound Off

Sound Off: Is the work being done on the Kansas River bridge right now redundant because they just worked on it?

Megan Gilliland, the city’s communications manager, provided this information: This project is a Kansas Department of Transportation project that started last August. KDOT’s contract crews finished the two southbound lanes and the outside northbound lane in 2011. The project was suspended for winter in mid-November. The overlay work on the northbound bridge is scheduled to be complete in early June, weather permitting

It does seem like the bridges are getting heavily patched or a major resurfacing almost every year.

Next they work on the 6th and Mass intersection or somewhere close to keep traffic tied up going to North Lawrence.

This shouldn't be a secret to anyone but Kansas has two seasons, winter and construction.

Alter Bridge is Creed....don't be fooled! When the bridge is all done, can we invite Limp Bizkit over so we can throw them off of it (much in the same way that a bottle of champagne is broken to christen a boat)?

Those little night time paver faeries are just getting too expensive, and besides they only do this to inconvenience you. I'll bet you complain the most about pot holes too.

They aren't just repaving it. They're testing the rebar and replacing sections that are old and failing. Let's see, a minor inconvenience for a few months or have the bridge not be structurally sound?
