Does the city of Lawrence have a processing plant or building south of the city that needs monitoring in the evenings and on weekends? I see a city utility truck pass my house going south on U.S. 59 every evening and returning to Lawrence every morning.
The Utility Department’s field service representatives are approved to drive a city vehicle to and from work. This is an approved use because of the nature of their job and the need to respond to water emergencies at any time. The vehicle in question is driven by an employee who lives south of the city. The city does not allow city vehicles to be used for personal use outside of work duties.
