What’s the history behind the building where the Lawrence Community Shelter is currently located, at 10th and Kentucky? At one time, it looked like it was a medical building. How long has it been there? Who built it and when?
James Dunn, current owner of the building, said it was built in the early 1960s and added onto later that decade. “It was built to accommodate physicians,” he said. It was originally full of doctors and dentists, until they eventually moved. Other former tenants have include Christian Psychological Services, Community Dental Clinic, an art gallery, a Kinko’s training center in the basement and even a live band.
