Are there any purple martins in Lawrence? I haven’t seen any this year.
Yes, there are purple martins in and around Lawrence. They like open areas, so they’re easier to spot outside of town. Mark Robbins, collection manager for Kansas University’s ornithology program, suggests trying near the former Sunflower ammunition plant or across the Clinton Lake dam. The birds perch in manmade bird houses, on telephone wires and in old, dead trees.
