Sound Off

I’ve been hearing rumors the new director at the Lawrence Humane Society has disbanded the Teen Volunteer Program and that a number of cats have been euthanized. Are any of these true?

According to Dori Villalon, Humane Society director, 362 cats have been euthanized in the first six months on 2011, compared with 455 for the same period in 2010. In addition, Villalon said the Teen Volunteer Program, as well as all volunteer programs at the shelter, are “on hold,” as the agency is examining ways to overhaul all of its volunteer programs. Villalon said more information about the volunteer programs will be released in coming months.
