Is it a violation of the city's sign ordinance for the Oread Hotel to have huge beer banners hanging from the building? If so, what's the fine for such a violation?
According to Megan Gilliland, communications manager for the city of Lawrence, city code requires a permit for temporary banners. The city will first contact an entity to request removal if there is no permit, and a $50 fine can result if the banner is not removed. Because the Oread did not have a permit, the city contacted the Oread about the banners, but they had already been removed. Gilliland said that the Oread is not eligible for any more banner permits, since they have already used the one allowed per calendar year.
