Recently, there was an editorial by Bob Schumm called “Your Town.” It alluded to two community improvement districts. Where are they?
The one district currently under consideration is near 23rd and Ousdahl. It includes four properties: the former Kwik Shop location, the current Jimmy John’s sandwich shop, the Yokohama Sushi restaurant, and the Hobby Lobby store. The second location that has been discussed but not yet considered would be for a new Lowe’s that has been proposed along Sixth Street between Wakarusa Drive and Folks Road. The community improvement districts charge an extra sales tax that can be used to fund everything from infrastructure improvements to the construction of private buildings.
