Is there a city ordinance or state law requiring bicycle riders to operate lighted head or tail lights in the city of Lawrence at night? I've noticed a large number of bicyclists not using head or tail lights, running stop signs, and riding the wrong way on a one-way street.

Sgt. Matt Sarna, with the Lawrence Police Department, said bicycles are required to be equipped with a lamp on the front and a red reflector on the rear when operating at night. Statutes also say that “every person riding a bicycle upon a roadway shall be granted all of the rights and shall be subject to all of the duties applicable to the driver of a vehicle.”
