In a recent edition of the Journal-World, Tom Keegan quotes Dave Johnson, CEO at Bert Nash Community Mental Health Center, "The median age of first-onset of anxiety disorders in the U.S. is 11 years old. Eight percent of high school students have attempted suicide." Could you give the source of his numbers? They seem high.

Johnson’s response: “We learned this statistic from Mental Health First Aid training. There are any number of remarkable statistics regarding youth. For example, following the Virginia Tech tragedy, there was publicity around the annual national student health assessment survey that found that over 44% of college students reported being too depressed to function at some point in the past year. Thus my growing concern.”
