Is the city of Lawrence going to come around and pick up the chunks of concrete left along the curbs of residential neighborhoods from the winter storm and from the streets crumbling?

The city is in the process of evaluating curbs that were damaged as part of the conditions from last winter’s storms, said Mark Thiel, assistant director of public works. The city has some money available to repair damaged curbs, with priority placed on those with the most severe damage. Street maintenance crews also are out street sweeping, which helps remove debris from broken curbs, Thiel said. Crews are 90 percent finished with the first round of street sweeping since the snow stopped in March.
