Sound Off

I noticed that construction on the Eudora football stadium has begun. I am just curious how this job was bid.

Kristin Magette, director of communications for Eudora schools, offers this information: The stadium project was bid as a general contract job, and the bidding timeline was discussed in multiple public school board meetings in late 2009 and early 2010. Once the board voted to accept bids, the official notice ran in the Lawrence Journal-World on Feb. 17, 2010. As the ad indicates, there was a mandatory pre-bid meeting on Feb. 25, and the bid opening was March 8. During this time, there also was an opportunity for interested parties to check out plans at the central office. Four general contractors attended the pre-bid meeting; two bids were submitted for consideration. The board selected the winning bidder, ATG Sports of Andover, at a special meeting on March 16. ATG bid as a general contractor to self-perform the work. As such, the district’s contract is with ATG, and that company is responsible for selecting and hiring all subcontractors for the project.
