Crews have put edging stones along the cement sidewalk along 21st Street from Carolina Street to Louisiana Street by Lawrence High School. Grass that was planted was destroyed in favor of a new walkway. Why were borders added to the sidewalk and at what cost?

Tom Bracciano, the school district’s division director of operations and facility planning, said crews added concrete pavers on both sides of the sidewalk to make it wider. The work was part of the approved site plan for the new athletic facilities on the campus. Bracciano said the city wanted the district to tear out the entire sidewalk and replace it, which would have cost $34,000. He said the district opted to add the concrete paving blocks, instead, along the length of the sidewalk, which cost $11,125.
