What is the purpose of the Big 12 Tournament if a school has already been awarded the title? What benefits do they receive?

A team that already has won the regular-season title gets the benefit of being seeded No. 1 in the postseason conference tournament. In the case of the Big 12, this means a first-round bye and playing the earliest game on the second day, which gives the team extra rest over its next competitor. Kansas can't benefit from the tournament because it already is in line for the No. 1 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament, but not all decisions are based on what's best for Kansas. Conference tournaments generate revenue, which is one of their chief functions.
