How dirty are the swimming lakes, especially Lone Star and Clinton lakes? Are septic systems drained into the lakes?

Charlie Nichols, park superintendent at Lone Star, said it is safe to swim in the lake. He said tests are run on the water conditions each year to make sure they are safe. He said the water may be a little mucky, but that water levels are back down and people come out there to swim every day. Dave Rhoades, park manager for the Corps of Engineers, said water quality at Bloomington swimming beach at Clinton Lake was tested last week and the water is safe for swimming. The water is monitored throughout the recreation season (May to September) and if there was a problem, Rhoades said a notice would be posted to inform swimmers. Septic systems are not drained into either lake.
