Is it really a Kansas or Lawrence law that cafe owners don’t have the right to ask parents to ask their children to be seated? We were told that by the owner of a restaurant, where six children were running loose for an hour while we were eating.

According to the city clerk’s office there are no city codes or ordinances that prohibit restaurant owners from asking parents to ask their children to be seated. According to the city legal department, property owners have the right to ask this question unless the situation involves extenuating circumstances or is based on discrimination such as race, sex, religion, color, national origin, age, ancestry, sexual orientation or disability.
