Who’s responsible for sending out fire trucks and paramedics? Last night, I noticed at least three fire trucks and possibly two paramedics on West 25th Street. It appeared to be a false alarm because after five or 10 minutes, they all drove off.
Fire trucks and ambulances are dispatched by Douglas County Emergency Communications, which answers 911 calls in Lawrence and Douglas County. “The number of vehicles, types of vehicles and staff is predetermined by a dispatch matrix based on type and severity of incident as described by the calling party,” said Megan Gilliland, city spokeswoman.
