Can the city be held responsible for any damage done to my car from a pothole? My strut was bent from a pothole.

A number of variables determine whether the city is responsible for damages, including whether it knew about the pothole and if workers acted in a reasonable manner, according to a response prepared by Lawrence city officials. “The city is not an insurer against road hazards,” said Megan Gilliland, city spokeswoman. Gilliland said the city addresses potholes as soon as they’re reported by residents or discovered through staff review of street conditions. Damage claims can be filed against the city by contacting its risk management division at 832-3009, Gilliland said.
