What are the white crossbars painted on the street for? In the center of the crossbars, there’s a black square; inside that is some type of metal bolt.

The white crossbars are location markers designating coordinates, useful when adjusting aerial photographs for scale and contours, said Megan Gilliland, city spokeswoman.
