Are the sidewalks inside apartment complexes covered under the city’s snow shoveling ordinance? What about the sidewalk leading up to someone’s porch, or parking lots in shopping centers?
Generally, no, they aren’t covered said Brian Jimenez, the city’s codes enforcement manager. The ordinance requires public sidewalks to be cleared. Generally public sidewalks are the ones that are along a public road, he said. Sidewalks that are not along a public road — such as those in the interior of an apartment complex, mobile home park or in front of a business in a shopping center — are not covered. It is up to the property owners to determine how thoroughly to clean those sidewalks.
