The Lawrence school district uses a ratio of 21 to 1 — 21 students for each teacher — in determining “general education” staffing for high schools, said Julie Boyle, district’s director of communications. “As of this week,” she said Friday, “the smallest high school classes are Free State’s Communication Skills III/IV with five students and Lawrence High’s Advanced Placement Latin with an enrollment of four. “The largest classes are Free State’s Advanced Placement government/politics with 33 students and a section of psychology at Lawrence High with an enrollment of 39.”
