How long can an old, unlicensed pickup truck used for junk storage sit on a city street? Where can I report this?
Megan Gilliland, communications manager for the city, said that if the vehicle is unlicensed, the Lawrence Police Department can issue a citation for unregistered vehicles on city streets immediately. If a vehicle is registered and remains on the city streets for a period of more than 48 hours consecutively, officers will issue a citation and affix a warning sticker notifying the owner of the violation and potential vehicle removal. Officers will return 48 hours later to confirm the vehicle has not moved. If it has not moved, a second citation will be issued and the vehicle may be removed from the street per city contract tow procedures. Violations can be reported to the Lawrence Police Department by calling (785) 832-7509.
