I read where the city tax base is expected to be steady or go down slightly in 2010. What has been the growth rate of that tax base over the last several years?
According to Lawrence city budget, the city’s assessed valuation — or its property tax base — posted these growth rates: • 2000: 9.38%. • 2001: 9.26%. • 2002: 5.55%. • 2003: 7.20%. • 2004: 6.49%. • 2005: 8.18%. • 2006: 6.11%. • 2007: 3.54%. • 2008: 0.84%. In 2009, it was down 0.80%.
