Why are they putting in new traffic lights at Ninth and Iowa?

City crews are supervising installation of new equipment at Ninth and Iowa streets because the signals’ supports have deteriorated to the point of being potentially unsafe. “The bases were rusting,” said Chuck Soules, the city’s director of public works. “The poles were rusting. They need to be replaced. We don’t want them to fall down.” The intersection handles an average of 26,800 vehicles per day, he said.
