The average first frost for Lawrence is Oct. 15, according to Matt Elwell, 6News meteorologist. That is when the temperature drops to or below 36 degrees. This year, that occurred on Oct. 7, Elwell said. The average first freeze — when the temperature drops to or below 32 degrees — is Oct. 28, but it happened on the Oct. 10 this year.
