Sound Off

I live in northwest Lawrence and we have had three salesman come after dark within the last month. One wanted to clean my carpet at 8:30 at night. It's kind of scary because we have a lot of widows in the our area. If my husband wouldn't have been home, I wouldn't have opened the door. What's the best way to handle this problem?

Door-to-door solicitors are not illegal, Lawrence police said, as long as they have a solicitor’s license from the city. Legitimate peddlers can also approach your home at any time during the day. Sgt. Bill Cory said you should not feel obligated to open a door to a salesperson or any stranger and that you should call for an officer if you’re concerned about someone in your neighborhood or on your porch.
