Does Ronald McDonald House, or any other charity, collect soda pop tabs?
The Ronald McDonald House in Topeka and in Kansas City, Mo., accept soda pop tabs, but charity leaders encourage people to drop them off rather than mail them, because the cost of aluminum is low and it can actually cost more to ship them. The money collected from the recycled tabs is used to help families who have children at area hospitals. Cans for the Community, a nonprofit organization, recycles aluminum cans and donates the proceeds to other nonprofit groups in Douglas County, said Kathy Richardson, waste reduction and recycling operations supervisor for the city. Drop-off recycling bins are throughout Lawrence.
