At Sixth Street and Crestline Drive, there is a sign with a truck with a slash through it. According to the handbook for driver’s license renewal, it means no truck traffic allowed on this street or highway. All kinds of trucks come down this street, so what does it really mean?
“The sign in question does mean no trucks,” said David Woosley, the city’s transportation/traffic engineer. “However, trucks that have a business in the area or must take a certain route for delivery are allowed to use the street.” People who see trucks that they don’t think have deliveries in the area may report suspected violations to the Lawrence Police Department, Woosley said. The nonemergency number to reach a dispatcher is 832-7509.
