How many deaths have been caused by the H1N1 virus in the U.S.?
As of Aug. 30, 2009, there were 593 deaths caused by H1N1, according to Artealia Gilliard, a spokeswoman for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. “After that date, we started counting deaths caused by both seasonal and H1N1 flu,” she said. From Aug. 30 to Sept. 19, 936 deaths associated with influenza virus infection or based on syndromic surveillance for influenza and pneumonia were reported to CDC.
