When lawmakers in the Statehouse file a bill, how much does that cost?
Jeffrey Russell, who is director of the Division of Legislative Administrative Services, says a simple bill, such as renaming a highway, costs about $200. That includes staff time in various departments to research and write the bill and printing costs. More extensive and complicated bills cost more. There are usually between 800 and 1,000 bills and resolutions filed each legislative session.
