The Lawrence-Douglas County Health Department will offer the H1N1 vaccine during elementary school conferences, Nov. 11-12, at Lawrence public schools. Kennedy and East Lawrence will not be hosting a clinic. The reason given was there was to be a clinic held at the Douglas County Fairgrounds, which has now been canceled. Why isn’t Kennedy participating in the clinics associated with the school conferences?

When the school-based swine flu vaccination clinics were being scheduled, three community clinics were planned for the Douglas County 4-H Fairgrounds, across the street from Kennedy School. The health department conducted an Oct. 28 clinic at the fairgrounds, but because of lack of vaccine availability, canceled two other clinics scheduled. Lisa Horn, spokeswoman for the health department, said two east Lawrence clinics will be on Wednesday: one from 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at New York School and one from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Prairie Park. Douglas County students and families may attend any clinic regardless of where they attend school. All clinics are subject to cancellation or early closure because of vaccine availability.
