What is the total number of patrol officers employed by the city of Lawrence and Douglas County Sheriff's departments?
There are 79 patrol officers employed by the Lawrence Police Department, said Kim Murphree, police spokeswoman. The number does not include supervisors and officers with other assignments. The Douglas County Sheriff's Office employs 27 patrol deputies, said Sgt. Steve Lewis, sheriff’s spokesman. Another three commissioned officers perform seasonal lake patrol duties on a part-time basis, he said.
