I was wondering whatever happened to the city program to encourage downtown property owners to install fire sprinklers?

A total of 36 property owners applied for grants from the city to help install fire sprinkler systems in their downtown businesses. The applications were rated by city officials based on several criteria. Five businesses received money to install systems. They were: Buffalo Bob’s Smokehouse, 719 Mass.; Goldmakers, 723 Mass.; The Bayleaf, 725 Mass.; The Casbah, 803 Mass.; Silver Works and More Gallery, 715 Mass.; Sacred Sword/Joe College, 732-734 Mass. The program no longer is accepting applications or awarding grants because money was not provided for the program in the 2009 budget, city spokeswoman Lisa Patterson said.
