Is there any possible way to appeal the huge bonus Lew Perkins is receiving to a higher authority, like the Board of Regents at the university?
Lynn Bretz, a KU spokeswoman, said that the payment is a contract arrangement between Perkins and the university. Perkins was required to serve as athletic director for six years, which is up June 30, in order to qualify for the $2.05 million payment. Once the six years have been served, he has a contractual right to the payment, Bretz said. She said the only appeal now would be Perkins’ in the event KU refused to honor the agreement. If Perkins does not serve six years — essentially honoring his part of the agreement — he would not receive the payment, Bretz said.
