When is the turnpike going to close the interchange in North Lawrence? I drive through there all the time.

The interchange — known as the East Lawrence interchange, or exit 204 — will be closed temporarily for traffic headed west on the turnpike for seven to 10 days, likely later this month, the Kansas Turnpike Authority says. The closure will prevent westbound traffic from getting on or off the turnpike at the interchange, which empties onto North Third Street by the I-70 Business Center. That’s so that crews can make preparations for an even larger closing to come. The entire interchange is scheduled to be closed for about eight months, beginning in spring 2010, for reconstruction. The work is part of an ongoing, $130 million project to replace bridges, overhaul interchanges and make other changes to the turnpike as it passes through Lawrence. The entire job is set to continue through the end of 2011.
