Lawrence school district has either two or three snow days built into its calendar. If those days aren't used, the students have certain days of school off. Can they not have those particular days instead of going back to school after Memorial Day to take finals? Why couldn't the calendar be adjusted so the students wouldn't have to return?
The school board reconvened the district's calendar committee to examine a proposal to use two designated inclement weather makeup days — April 17 and May 1 — as school days, said Julie Boyle, the district’s communication director. The proposal would have meant the school year would end before Memorial Day. “The committee reported to the board that the majority of stakeholders recommended making no changes to the published school calendar at this late date," Boyle said.
