Sound Off

Are police officers allowed to talk on cell phones for an extended amount of time while driving in nonemergency situations? I have seen this numerous amounts of times.

“There is no law or policy against officers using their cell phones while on duty,” said Sgt. Bill Cory, Lawrence police spokesman. According to Lawrence police policy, all officers must operate their cars in a safe manner when using a cell phone, personal cell phone use must be kept to a minimum while on duty, and officers aren’t allowed to discuss sensitive information over cell phones.
