I was wondering what the turnout was like for Walterpalooza?

Walterpalooza — a community benefit on June 7 for Kent “Walter” Smalter, a longtime Lawrence resident who has Lou Gehrig’s Disease — was a huge success. The goal was to raise enough money to buy Smalter a wheelchair-accessible van. His sister, Janet Smalter, said about 300 people attended the benefit, which raised about $30,000. She said the funds will provide the resources for the purchase, maintenance, taxes and insurance for a van. Janet said updates, pictures and additional information will be posted at
