Sound Off

I’ve heard a lot about Relay for Life of Douglas County and how it raises money for the American Cancer Society. I was wondering what are the effects of cancer in Kansas?

Cancer is the second leading cause of death of men and women in Kansas, according to Maggie Thompson, spokeswoman for the Kansas Department of Health and Environment. On average, 6,669 men and 6,139 women are diagnosed each year with cancer. Each year, about 2,768 men and 2,569 women die from the disease.
