Why are the rainfall totals in the newspaper different from what we see on the towercam information on Channel 6?

Matt Elwell, 6News Meteorologist, gives this explanation: “The National Weather Service has an official weather station located at the municipal airport that is used to record state climate data. Those are the official records that we use in the newspaper. The numbers that you see on Channel 6 while towercam is on air are taken from our own weather station at the 6News studio. It often will rain more in one location than in the other, which accounts for the differences you see.”
