Sound Off

I just recently noticed some fire hydrants were painted white instead of yellow on 19th Street. What’s the significance behind this and will all of them be painted white?

Lisa Patterson, communications manager for the city of Lawrence, said: “Fire hydrants around town are in various stages of being repainted. Over the weekend, the fire hydrants on 19th Street were scraped and primered, which is white or gray-white in color. When painting is complete, the fire hydrants will be painted federal safety yellow.”
