Is there any place in Lawrence where senior citizens can get the vaccination to prevent shingles? If so, is it covered by Medicare Part B?
The Lawrence-Douglas County Health Department does not provide the shingles vaccine. However, the department recommends people ask their private physician if they carry it, according to Lisa Horn, communications coordinator of the department. If he or she doesn’t provide the immunization, the doctor may be able to recommend a pharmacy that can administer the shot. Medicare Part D is the plan that covers some and perhaps all of the cost of the vaccine, but this depends on the type of plan a person has.
