Are there any walking clubs in Lawrence? If so, do they hold any events and how does one get involved?
We were unable to locate any walking clubs. Ernie Shaw, the city’s interim director of Parks and Recreation, also checked with his staff an no one knew of an organized walking club. However, gyms in two Lawrence recreation centers have times set aside for walking. East Lawrence Recreation Center, 1245 E. 15th St., has walking hours from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. Monday through Friday. Holcom Park Recreation Center, 2700 W. 27th St., has walking from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m., Monday through Friday, and 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday.
