Sound Off
Are property owners required to keep sidewalks on their property free of overhanging or low hanging trees and shrubs? There are several spots along Lawrence Avenue from 15th Street to Sixth Street that are difficult to walk by. In fact, you practically have to walk off the sidewalk.
Yes. According to Jim Beebe, the city’s forestry supervisor, homeowners or occupants are responsible for keeping sidewalks clear of low-hanging branches. The department gets many complaints each year, he said, and sometimes takes care of problems that pose safety hazards for cars or pedestrians. To report overhanging trees or shrubs, call 832-7979.
